IPHE publishes comparative study between Hydrogen certification schemes

International exchanges depend, among many other aspects, on a system that the parties consider reliable to ensure that what is being delivered corresponds exactly to what was purchased , in accordance with the specifications and other general conditions of the signed contract.

Much has been invested in the development of certification systems around the world . An excellent example is the certification bodies that operate in the shipbuilding market, where long-term contracts are signed and internationally reputable consultancies are hired to monitor the design and construction processes that follow meticulously detailed criteria and with several checkpoints that are accepted by the interested parties .

If this were not the case, let us imagine the costs associated with litigation and conflicts resulting from the parties having to maintain multifunctional and multicultural teams that would be sent around the world to monitor and verify the design and construction conditions of the contracted vessels.

In the case of the emerging hydrogen economy, a great international effort has been made to develop certification standards that will provide reliability to contracting parties . Some systems have been adopted in some jurisdictions and their compatibility is necessary, as it is expected that the product and its derivatives will soon be traded internationally.

In this sense, the IPHE, International Partnership for Hydrogen and Fuel Cells in the Economy, issued in December 2024 the report in the link where the “Comparison between Hydrogen Certification Schemes – Methodology and Results” is presented.

This is an important phase, as it will still take some time until we have a harmonized international system for hydrogen certification. But it is a big step.

It's worth checking out.
