International Hydrogen Forum brings together leaders in Salvador to advance the decarbonization of Brazilian industry

In November 2024, Salvador will host the 4th edition of the International Hydrogen Forum and Fair, an event that brings together authorities, experts and leaders from the hydrogen sector from Brazil and around the world. The forum aims to boost the development of the renewable hydrogen market by connecting the sector's main players, including producers, consumers, academics, technicians and government representatives. The meeting is seen as an opportunity to explore low-emission hydrogen applications and promote the decarbonization of the national industry.

With an intense schedule of panels and lectures, the first day will focus on the theme “New Brazilian Industry – Opportunities and Applications of Low-Emission Hydrogen as a Decarbonization Vector”. This debate opens space for discussions on the integration of hydrogen into Brazil’s energy matrix and the potential benefits in mitigating climate impacts, with the participation of important names in the sector, such as the governor of Bahia, Jerônimo Rodrigues, and Carlos Henrique Passos, president of the Federation of Industries of the State of Bahia.

During the event, debates will include topics such as the role of hydrogen in Bahia’s energy transition, supply chain logistical challenges and the importance of public policies to strengthen the sector. One of the highlights of the first day is the lecture by Dr. Nuria Hartmann, an international expert who will present the results and lessons learned from the Power-to-X project in Chile, addressing best practices for implementing large-scale hydrogen projects.

Integration of Renewable Energy and Vocational Training: Challenges and Opportunities

The second day of the forum, focused on the “Decarbonization of the New Brazilian Industry”, will address the application of low-emission hydrogen in various segments, from energy storage to mobility and logistics. With the participation of authorities such as Rafael Menezes, from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, the forum opens discussions on standardization and certification, exploring paths for the safe and efficient use of hydrogen.

The afternoon sessions will present global success stories in the use of hydrogen, reinforcing the role of renewable sources in the consolidation of the sector in Brazil. Experts such as Dr. Erwin Plett, from the University of Chile, and Markus Lehmann, from GH2 Global Brazil, will share international experiences, highlighting the relevance of renewable sources such as wind and solar for the production of low-carbon hydrogen.

Another essential aspect, highlighted in the final panel of the event, is the training and qualification of the workforce, recognized as key to sustaining the growth of the sector in Brazil. Natasha Costa, from AHK, and Isabela Santos, from GIZ, will bring perspectives on the importance of training professionals to deal with emerging hydrogen technologies.

Over the course of two days, the International Hydrogen Forum will provide a space for integration between the public and private sectors, encouraging partnerships and knowledge exchange, essential factors for consolidating Brazil as one of the global leaders in the production of renewable hydrogen.
