The 1st Latin American Hydrogen Technology Meeting (ELATH) in conjunction with the 2nd Paranaense Hydrogen Symposium (SIMPHI) marks an important moment in the search for sustainable solutions for the energy matrix in Latin America. The event, which will take place from November 12 to 14 at Itaipu Parquetec , is dedicated to the development of a regional market for hydrogen, and brings together experts, researchers and those interested in exploring the potential of hydrogen production, storage and use as a clean energy source . With a diverse and innovation-rich program, the event aims to stimulate a constructive dialogue between Latin American countries to transform the region into a global reference for sustainable hydrogen.
The event was structured around presentations of large-scale commercially viable projects, showing concrete examples of how hydrogen can be produced and used efficiently. In addition, the ELATH and SIMPHI events allow participants to discuss, in technical sessions and discussion forums, key topics such as hydrogen logistics, storage and application, offering a comprehensive overview of the solutions that are shaping the future of energy in the region.
Technical programming and visits to experimental plants in Itaipu
The event program is structured to provide participants with an immersion into emerging technologies and the industrial potential of hydrogen. Sessions include technical papers in key areas: hydrogen production and application (THP), logistics and storage (THL) and advances in renewable hydrocarbons (BRC). These papers bring together practical and theoretical knowledge, aiming to share best practices to address the technological and logistical challenges of the hydrogen industry.
Participants will have the opportunity to take technical visits to experimental units that are at the forefront of renewable energy development. Destinations include the Low Emission Hydrogen Experimental Plant and the Biogas and Biomethane Production Units in Itaipu , both references for research and innovation, demonstrating in practice the potential of hydrogen and biogas for the decarbonization and diversification of Brazil's energy matrix. In addition, the visit to the Renewable Hydrocarbon Production Unit reinforces the integration of alternative energy sources into a sustainable economy.

Hydrogen as a key piece in Latin America’s energy transition
The importance of hydrogen for Latin America’s energy sustainability is a central theme of the event, which highlights the urgency of consolidating a regional strategy for the sector. By promoting discussions and partnerships, ELATH and SIMPHI reinforce the need for investments in low-carbon technologies that guarantee both the energy independence of Latin American countries and the contribution to the reduction of global emissions.
With a global scenario seeking less polluting energy alternatives, the use of hydrogen in Latin America can be a determining factor for economic and environmental development. Events such as ELATH and SIMPHI show that regional cooperation is essential to build a solid energy future, capable of combining innovation, competitiveness and sustainability in an increasingly demanding and interconnected context.
