Ceará advances in the global renewable energy scenario with Sino-Brazilian partnership

The Government of Ceará has taken another strategic step to consolidate its position as a leader in renewable energy in Brazil. In a move that reflects the strengthening of international relations with China, Governor Elmano de Freitas signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the company CGN Brasil Energia (CGNBE) , a subsidiary of one of the largest energy groups in China, for the development of low-carbon solar, wind and hydrogen energy projects.

The partnership promises to transform the state's energy landscape, combining technological expertise and sustainability in projects that encompass energy generation and significant investments in the local economy.

Offshore Wind Project: A Milestone in the Sustainable Development of Ceará

The main highlight of the agreement is the development of an offshore wind project with an installed capacity of 1,000 MW, which will be built in the coastal region of the state. This will be one of the largest projects of its kind in Brazil, representing a milestone for the renewable energy sector in the country.

Studies for the project are expected to begin later this year, with implementation divided into phases. This initiative places Ceará at the forefront of harnessing its coastal potential for clean energy , promoting innovation and attracting new investment.

In addition to offshore wind, the memorandum provides for the installation of solar and onshore wind projects, with an additional capacity of 400 MW. These projects should be accompanied by the development of a low-carbon hydrogen pilot plant , signaling the commitment to diversifying the state's energy matrix and transitioning to a low-carbon economy.

Lagoinha Project and Local Economic Impacts

Another central point of the partnership is the implementation of the Lagoinha photovoltaic solar project , located in the municipality of Russas. With an installed capacity of 194 MWp, the project will require an investment of R$650 million and will be responsible for generating around 900 direct and indirect jobs throughout its construction.

The initiative not only boosts clean energy production, but also strengthens the local economy by generating employment opportunities and regional development. The Lagoinha project is the first in a series of planned developments , and other projects of even greater scale may be announced, expanding the socioeconomic benefits for the state.
