Brazil reaches historic record in the expansion of electricity generation

In 2024, Brazil's electricity grid reached an unprecedented milestone with the addition of 10,321 megawatts (MW) of installed power, according to data released by the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL). This annual record was driven by the release of seven wind farms in Bahia, consolidating the leading role of renewable sources in the country's energy matrix.

Wind and solar: the pillars of the new Brazilian energy matrix

The record expansion was led by solar photovoltaic and wind sources, which together accounted for 91% of the new installed capacity . Among the 283 plants implemented in the year, 139 solar plants stand out, responsible for 51.87% of the total (5,354.17 MW), and 115 wind plants, which added 39.19% (4,045.40 MW).

One of the emblematic projects of this achievement was the Serra do Assuruá 13 wind farm in Bahia, which added 31.5 MW of capacity to the national matrix. This trend reflects not only the potential of Brazilian regions to harness natural resources, such as wind and sun, but also the country's commitment to a sustainable and competitive energy transition.

Management and transparency tools in the electricity sector

The expansion of generation capacity in Brazil is monitored and recorded by ANEEL through tools such as the Supply Expansion Monitoring Report (RALIE) and SIGA – ANEEL's Generation Information System . These systems allow detailed queries on plants in operation, under construction or not yet started, providing a complete overview of the sector.

Customizing searches in SIGA, with filters by generation capacity, location and sub-basin, provides transparency and accessibility to sector data . This level of organization and control contributes to strategic decision-making and planning of new investments, consolidating Brazil as a reference in management and innovation in the energy sector.
