The general director of the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL), Sandoval Feitosa, was present at the tenth edition of Brazil GRI Infra & Energy 2024, which took place in São Paulo and brought together leaders from the public and private sectors . In the panel “ New Model of the Electric Sector ”, Feitosa addressed crucial issues for the national energy infrastructure, emphasizing the importance of adapting the electricity grid to new climate realities.
The urgency of ensuring the resilience of the grid in the face of extreme weather events was one of the central points. Feitosa highlighted that ANEEL is committed to modernizing the regulatory system and plans to open a Public Consultation soon to discuss adjustments . These improvements aim to strengthen event detection systems, update grid standards and contingency plans, and invest in solutions such as microgrids and plant management to mitigate the risk of supply interruptions. The measures reflect a joint effort by the agency to ensure that both the sector and consumers are prepared to face adverse conditions with greater safety and transparency.
Data Centers and Clean Sources: Brazil as an Energy Powerhouse in the Digital Age
Another topic of note was the growth of the data center market in Brazil and the specific energy demands of this sector. In the panel “Electric Sector and Data Centers - How to energize the market efficiently?”, Feitosa pointed out that Brazil is in a privileged position to meet the needs of this digital infrastructure , which requires reliable, clean and resilient energy.
The CEO of ANEEL highlighted the growing participation of renewable energy, especially in the Northeast, as a competitive advantage for the installation of data centers in the country. In addition to offering electricity at competitive costs, Brazil has a robust electrical system with a high level of reliability . This scenario attracts investors and strengthens the country as a strategic hub for the technology market, aligning economic growth with sustainable practices.
