ANEEL authorizes new generating units in eight plants in the northeast

National Electric Energy Agency

The National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL) announced the authorization for commercial operation of new generating units in eight plants located in the states of Piauí, Bahia and Pernambuco. The impact of this development is significant for the Brazilian electricity matrix, with emphasis on the predominance of renewable sources.

Expansion and Diversification of Generation Capacity

Of the eight authorized projects, seven are wind farms, reflecting the growing role of renewable energy in Brazil's electricity grid. The wind units are located in the municipalities of Simões and Lagoa do Barro, in Piauí, and in Brotas de Macaúbas, in Bahia, totaling an installed capacity of 273.9 MW. In addition, the authorization includes the Camaçari Muricy II thermoelectric plant, located in Igarassu, Pernambuco, which, together with the Pecem II TPP, adds 288.9 MW to the system. In total, the new generating units contribute 418.35 MW of installed capacity.

Monitoring and Transparency in the Generation Sector

ANEEL maintains a continuous monitoring system for plants in operation and those under construction through the Generation Information System (SIGA). This system is updated daily, providing transparency and detailed information on the status of power generation projects in Brazil. Monitoring the expansion of generation supply is essential to ensure adequate planning of the energy sector and the stability of the national electricity matrix.

Forecasting and Monitoring of New Projects

In addition to SIGA, ANEEL provides interactive panels that present detailed forecasts on the entry of new generating units in the coming years. These panels, updated monthly, provide a historical overview of the sector's expansion since ANEEL was created in 1997. Using these tools, it is possible to monitor the progress of construction work on authorized projects, ensuring transparency and effectiveness in the implementation of new generation capacity in Brazil.
