ABH2: Study Highlights Opportunities for Hydrogen R&D in Brazil

Opportunities for R&D in Hydrogen in Brazil

Brazil’s hydrogen research, development and innovation (R&D&I) sector is in the spotlight in a detailed study conducted by the Brazilian Hydrogen Association (ABH2) and the Netherlands Innovation Network (NIN). The research provides a broad overview of low-carbon hydrogen in Brazil, exploring the technologies and opportunities the country has to offer.

Technological Mapping and Sector Development

The study mapped technological developments at different levels of maturity, ranging from bio-based conversion to fuel cells, electrolyzers and power-to-X technologies. The survey identified academic and business initiatives that are helping to build the infrastructure for low-carbon hydrogen, a market that has been growing in importance in Brazil with the support of new federal laws, including regulations for natural hydrogen.

ABH2: Connection and Dialogue in the Hydrogen Sector

ABH2 plays a central role in bringing together important stakeholders, such as companies, governments and the scientific community. The association positions itself as a hub for dialogue and information, promoting coordination and representation of the interests of its members, with a focus on strengthening the hydrogen value chain in Brazil. The association is actively involved in building a regulatory infrastructure that favors the sustainable growth of the sector.

Netherlands Innovation Network: Global Connections and Innovation

The Netherlands Innovation Network (NIN), part of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, supports innovation globally by connecting international networks with Dutch capabilities. With a focus on science, research and technology, NIN joins forces with ABH2 to explore Brazil’s potential in hydrogen and foster collaborations between Brazilian and Dutch institutions and companies. This partnership aims to strengthen the innovation ecosystem and share knowledge for the sustainable development of the sector.

Prospects for Future Collaborations

The study conducted by the two entities not only maps Brazil’s technological capabilities, but also paves the way for new international collaborations. The combination of ABH2’s local knowledge and NIN’s expertise creates an environment conducive to advances in the hydrogen sector and innovative partnerships between companies and institutions in both countries, boosting Brazil as a relevant player in the global energy transition.
